My Mom bought me a cell phone last Thursday! I wanted one with Talks! I learned about Talks from this site! Anyway my Mom ssaid no! So now here I'm left with a cell phone that I can't work! Anyone have any ideas for me?
Why is this posted under zone suggestions?
exactly what i was thinking becky
Well besides the placement of the post, I think basic functioning of the phone should be something you can do. Get someone to walk you through the basic functions. dial your phone often to get the feel of the buttons. I when getting a new phone if I can't change the way the beeps that the numbers make listen as I dial to kind of try and see if I can hear a different when I press different buttons.
Hi
Even if a phone hasn't got talks you can do some things like making and answering calls, choosing your favorite ring tome or if you try harder i am sure you can write texts to other people. The only thing that you wouldn't be able to do is to read text messages. Talks is expensive and maybe your mam didn't have the money to get it. In the future maybe you might get it. If your phone is compatible you could download the talks demo. You will be able to use it for 10 minutes but it's better than nothing.
And yes this is the wrong place to post this topic.

Buy another phone
that you can use
yourself
Moved to accessible electronics.
Well, I agree with what some others have said about being able to carry out basic functions. Provided the keypad is tactile/blind friendly, you should be able to make and receive calls, and probably do voice mail.
Depending on the network the phone is on and the type of phone you have, that'll dictate how accessible your phone is/might be. Go the manufacturer's website. You might find the manula for your phone. I just bought a nextel phone that has software as a free download that makes some of the functions talk. Again, I don't know what you have, but the outlook may not be as bleek as you may think. Good luck!
I bought talks and the phone, and installed it myself. It was quite simple.
You got a cell phone? I didn't know that. What kind is it?
hi Hope, try to ask someone to help you and tell you whats all about on the menu and so on and off. try to memorise the menu like pressing how many time for the button take you to where and so on. me myself have been using cell phones all the time without talks so, i really don't think it is any dificulty to use a cell phone without talks for basic user. you can still sending messages as long as you can remember what key representative what letter, as long as you can figure it out it will be fine. but however, if you do want to read messages, the only thing you can do is ask someone for their help.
Yeah I know this was the wrong place to write about my new phone! But I had a question! Yes Silky Sarah I got a cell phone! Thanks Nickos yeah my Mom has been telling us that we can't get everything we want since my Dad died! Thanks for your info! I hope I spelled your name right! Thanks to you too Season! I found your info the most helpful!
It's too bad you didn't get to pick out your own phone. I think when someone gets a piece of technology, they should get to choose it for themselves and have an opportunity to look at different brands to see what they find the easiest to use.
Tell us what kind of phone it is Hope, and I'll see what I can do pm me if you wish. also, can you please chill on the use of exclmation points? It'd help a bit, not griping or being rude just a suggestion.
From the geek's point of view(that's me of course). I have tried many phones and sometimes would love to have all the benefits a speech enabeled phone would offer me: E-Mail, contacts, text messages, all of those neet thinkgs. My problem is if I ddon't like the unit itself it doesn't matter what it does. I have always returned to Motorola because in my opinion it has the best audio quality. Looking in to the Motorola PEBL as my next one: no accessibillity what soever but an excellent phone with a top notch receiver and transmitter, small, and easy to use. I Know, Geek!geek!geek!geek!!!!That's me...
Hmmm, well when i had my 33 10, i could make calls, and that was fine.
But i'd never go back to that now i've got my n70 with talks, coz i can do so much more.
If you aren't used to using talks, then you wont miss out on anything; but if you have used it, you will kno what your missing.
You could try the talks demo, if you want it or if you wanna talk about where you can get talks, then add benmustillrose@hotmail.com to msn messenger or something.
BEN.
Ahh! friend Ben, actually, what I almost would consider is a PDA phone such as the Treo 700 or the HTC 8125. I was so close to buying one but am not sure I want to combine those two devices. I use mobile speak pocket on my pda and love it and sometimes think it would be nice to bring that functionality in to a phone but just haven't done it yet. Getting close though, very close...
